In this special tour we cover some unusual places, creating a holiday rich in experience while being very relaxing. Most of the stay is in heritage hotels or with local families, helping us immerse in the local culture and way of living.

 

  • Day 01 - Flight

    Fly to Kochi (all flights are indirect with a change of plane en route)

  • Day 2 - Kochi (Cochin)

    Arrive Cochin in the morning and transfer to the Tower House (or stay at Xandari Harbour/Brunton Boatyard) in the Dutch quarters of Fort Cochin; enjoy a Kathakali performance in the evening.

  • Days 3 & 4 - Alleppey

    Visit the sights including the Dutch Palace, with its murals from the Ramayana, the Jewish Synagogue in Mattancherry and St Francis' Church. Then take a short drive to Alleppey where you stay at the family home of the Tharakans in Olavipe. You are at leisure with your hosts.

  • Day 5 - Riceboat

    Board a private riceboat today for the night; cruise along Vembanad Lake to admire the bird and village life along the banks.

  • Day 6 & 7 - Munnar

    Disembark after breakfast for four-hour drive up the hills to the tea country of Munnar, stay at Ambady Estate (or stay at Windermere); visit the Eravikulam Sanctuary, home to the rare Nilgiri Tahr; see the Tata Tea Museum. Enjoy a jeep excursion to Kolukumalai with a picnic lunch.

  • Day 8 - Madurai

    To Madurai, descending the ghats, through the plains of Tamil Nadu with vineyards, paddy fields and busy market towns; stay at the Heritage, a charming hotel in ethnic style; visit the famous Meenakshi Temple, a grand spectacle of Dravidian architecture; see the going to bed ceremony of the goddess in the evening.

  • Days 9 & 10 - Palakkad

    Drive on to the paddy rich Palakkad to experience rural life with your hosts at Tharavad Home Stay. Take a short trip to the dance school at Kalamandalam to see young children being trained in the local dance forms of Kathakali and Mohiniyatttam, and the temple music of panchavadyam.

  • Day 11 - Coimbatore

    Take a short drive to Coimbatore for overnight stay at the Residency Towers.

  • Days 12 & 13 - Wayanad

    Take an early morning ride on the "toy train" to Ooty in the Nilgirs; you could have lunch at the colonial Savoy Hotel before driving through the hills to Wayanad for stay at Turmerica Plantation Homestay (or stay at Amaryliss/Wayanad Wild); at leisure with your hosts. The Edakkal Caves, with prehistoric paintings, can be visited here.

  • Days 14 & 15 - Beach

    Drive to Kozhicode to take an afternoon train to Alleppey; arrive in the evening transfer to Marari Sands Beach Resort (or upgrade to Beach Symphony/Marari Beach Resort); at leisure.

  • Day 16 - Return

    Transfer to Kochi airport for the return flight.
